Survivor: All Stars took place on the Pearl Islands, the same location used for Survivor: Pearl Islands.  Pearl Islands is a group of islands on the Pacific side of Panama, situated in the Gulf of Panama about 50 miles southeast of Panama City.

For the first time in Survivor history, 18 contestants were chosen to participate. They were initially divided into 3 tribes of 6 members each:  Chapera Tribe, Saboga Tribe and Mogo Mogo Tribe.  Merged tribal name: Chaboga Mogo.
