Tarutao National Marine Park, Satun Province, Southern Thailand. The national park, located in the Andaman Sea some 1,300 km (800 miles) south of Bangkok, comprises five major islands and covers a land and sea area of 1490 square km. Tarutao is the main island where Survivor: Thailand was filmed. The main island, Koh Tarutao, was a prison for hundreds of political prisoners during the 1940’s.
Terrain: The rugged but beautiful island, about 150 sq km in area, has limestone and sandstone mountains that reach past 700 meters elevation, caves and sandy beaches. Part of the habitat is tropical reefs, mangroves and tropical forests. The waters, surrounding the islands, clear and translucent, are pollution free and care has been taken to make sure that they remain so
Wildlife: Wild buffaloes, king cobra and python snakes
The two original tribes of Survivor: Thailand were Sook Jai and Chuay Gahn. Eventually the two were merged into the Chuay Jai tribe.
